Hydro Dipping

Water Transfer Printing

Hydro dipping, also called water transfer printing or hydrographics, puts a custom printed pattern on parts and personal items. The pattern wraps around curves and edges that are hard to paint by hand, and a clear top coat seals it in. Arkansas Painting & Specialties (APS) in Little Rock offers hydro dipping alongside our powder coating and blasting services.

How Hydro Dipping Works

  1. Prep – The part is cleaned and prepared so the finish will bond.
  2. Base Coat – A base coat goes on to set the background color.
  3. Dip – A printed film is floated on water and the part is dipped through it, so the pattern wraps around the part.
  4. Clear Coat – A protective clear top coat seals the pattern.

Prep Makes the Difference

Like any finish, hydro dipping only lasts if the surface underneath is right. APS has done surface preparation and powder coating in a controlled environment since 1993.
