Chemical Stripping
Arkansas Coating Removal
Before a part can get a new finish, the old one has to come off. Chemical stripping removes old paint, powder coat and other coatings from metal parts and equipment with chemical strippers instead of blasting media. At Arkansas Painting & Specialties (APS) in Little Rock, it is one of the surface preparation methods we use to get a part clean before it is recoated.
Chemical Stripping or Blasting?
Abrasive blasting is the workhorse of coating removal. Chemical stripping is another way to take an old coating off, and it can be useful on intricate shapes with recesses, threads and tight corners. Tell us about your part and we’ll recommend chemical stripping, abrasive blasting or both.
Coating Removal Before Recoating
A new coating can only hold as well as the layer under it. Paint or powder coat that is flaking, chipped or failing has to be removed completely, or the new finish will fail along with it. Stripping the old coating gives the new one a clean substrate to bond to.
Once the old coating is off, we can give the part a powder coating finish or apply an industrial coating in our controlled environment. See our surface preparation page for more on why prep matters.
